A friend recently asked me, “What do you want to be remembered for?”
I had to think about it……
I am sure you have heard this many times, but every so often someone says it differently.
Quite often we live our lives back to front.
We DO something (a paid job we don’t like)
To HAVE something (money and security), because we don’t think we can get that any other way
To BE something (happy and fulfilled), by doing something that the money from the disliked job will enable us to do, e.g. eventually begin your own business, go on a holiday, purchase something on the wish list or change jobs
It becomes an endless cycle of escape, refresh, and starting over.
Have you ever tried to reverse the process, and begin where you want to end?
So, my friend’s question encouraged me to clarify and put into words what I wanted to BE.
I want to BE someone who……
Stretches boundaries
Helps people to look at life from a different perspective
Encourages others to see possibility
What did I have to DO to… stretch, help and encourage
I had to put my ideas forwards
I had to talk about them
I had to write about them
What did I hope to HAVE?
A sense of achievement; in that I finished the projects I began.
A sense of self-satisfaction in that people were encouraged by my ideas.
And as my books began to sell, extra finances.
So, what do you want to BE remembered for? What do you want to be?
What do you have to DO,to be who you want to be?
What would you like to HAVE as a result?
